Cellular Accessories: The Obvious And The Subtle
Car chargers, clips and head sets rank among the most common of all cellular accessories, however some of them are not always known as “must have” types of products. But the most overlooked accessory of all is likely to have been missed due to it not being known as an accessory. That is to say, it isn’t an object that comes with the phone, rather it’s a service that’s performed on one. Keep in mind that what it means to accessorize something, involves assisting you to use something better, enhancing your overall experience. Well, unlock your phone, and you will enhance your mobile experience more than any other.
There are however other real accessories that are useful. For instance, the Jawbone Bluetooth Headset. It allows for complete hands-off speaking and listening, ideal for any multi-tasker or busy person. The Jawbone Bluetooth Headset uses “NoiseAssassin” signal processing that essentially blocks out background noise. Now that’s useful, but let’s get back on track: Cellular Accessories.
It’s too bad that many service carriers program their GSM phones in such a way that they won’t work with SIM cards from another carrier. Unlocking your GSM phone means to overwrite this programming. Will your service carrier has a problem with this? Well, it’s not unlikely: besides some kind of stipulation in your contract that charges you with never altering your phone in any way, ever, it’s your phone. Regardless of this clause, you can probably still unlock your phone, as your carrier makes money whether the phone is locked or unlocked. Plus, you likely wouldn’t try to unlock your phone in the first place unless you were switching to another carrier – in which case the old one doesn’t matter! But remember to store any unlocking codes for future reference, as there has been at least one report of a carrier actually relocking a phone – even though it wasn’t even one that had been issued by the provider!
You can check if your phone is already unlocked just by inserting another SIM card into it. Some phones are unlocked through codes that can be purchased very cheaply, but entering secret codes yourself is only one way to unlock a GSM phone. Some will require a firmware rewrite, also known as reflashing, and the phone must be sent to a company that has the hardware required to reprogram the phone. Not all companies can service all makes and models of cell phones, so be sure to first check and see that your specific phone can be reflashed by the company.
